Steuben County Sheriff Warrant Services

The Steuben County Sheriff's Office maintains records of active warrants and processes warrant arrests throughout the county. The office works closely with local police departments in Bath, Corning, Hornell, and other communities to serve arrest warrants issued by the courts. Warrant information can be obtained by contacting the Records Division during regular business hours. You will need the person's full name and, if possible, date of birth to make a request.

The Sheriff's Office also participates in the Centralized Arraignment Part system, which is used statewide for processing warrant arrests that happen outside of normal court hours. When someone is brought in on a warrant, they go through the booking process and then appear before a judge at the next available CAP session. Cross-county warrant coordination is part of the job as well. Steuben County law enforcement has executed warrants issued by courts in other counties, and vice versa.

In one case, a Bath resident was charged on an arrest warrant from Schuyler County for an alleged assault at Watkins Glen International. This shows how warrants move between counties in the region. If you have a warrant from Steuben County and are picked up in another county, you can expect to be brought back to Steuben for processing and court appearances. The Sheriff's Office handles the transport.

Note: Warrant checks through the Steuben County Sheriff's Office are available during business hours only.

Town and village courts across Steuben County also issue bench warrants for missed appearances. Corning City Court and Hornell City Court handle misdemeanor cases and violations in their respective jurisdictions. Each of these courts keeps its own warrant records. If you are not sure which court issued a warrant, start with the Sheriff's Office. They have access to records from all courts in the county.

The Office of Court Administration oversees the court system statewide. While the courts are not subject to FOIL, the OCA accepts FOIL requests for administrative records.
