Warren County Sheriff Warrant Records

The Warren County Sheriff's Office is led by Sheriff Jim LaFarr with Undersheriff Terry Comeau. The office is at 1400 State Route 9, Lake George, NY 12845. People with proper identification and authorization may get local background information during normal business hours for a fee of $75.00. This check can tell you if there are active warrants. A more comprehensive statewide background check is available from the Office of Court Administration or the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services for a separate fee. The Sheriff's Office enters all warrant data into the New York State Incident Based Reporting System, which means law enforcement agencies across the state can track Warren County warrants.

Warren County Central Records Division

Central Records is also responsible for data submission into the New York State Incident Based Reporting System. IBR information is then made available to law enforcement agencies across New York State to track trends and develop strategies for combating crime. This includes warrant data from Warren County courts and local police. Accident reports can be obtained online through the crashdocs portal, but warrant information must be requested through the Sheriff's Office directly.

Warren County Clerk Warrant Records

The Warren County Clerk serves as both the Recording Officer and Filing Officer for the county. It is an office of public notice. Thousands of pages of documents are recorded and filed each year. These include deeds, mortgages, liens, tax warrants, business certificates, corporations, money judgments, and more.

Since 2009, these public records have been available online for 24/7 convenience. Real property records are available from about 1963 to current. Civil action court cases are available online too. Under New York's Freedom of Information Law, government records are presumed accessible unless a specific exemption applies.

Warrant Laws in Warren County

Arrest warrants come from CPL 120.80 and can be served any day at any time. Bench warrants fall under CPL 530.70 for failure to appear. Search warrants are covered by CPL Article 690 and need probable cause plus a judge's signature.

Once served, the officer must bring the defendant before the local court without unnecessary delay. Per CPL 120.90, fingerprinting and other police tasks must be done first. The defendant gets one phone call. Records for sealed cases are protected under CPL 160.50 and CPL 160.55. The Clean Slate Act, effective November 2024, allows automatic sealing of some conviction records after waiting periods.

Note: Active warrants in Warren County do not expire and stay in effect until the person is arrested or the court recalls them.
